CONCIERGE SPOTLIGHT
ANDREA SHIRLEY
Andrea Shirley is the senior concierge at The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and has been a member of that team for one and a half years. Her hotel career began in 1998 when she was walking through downtown Cincinnati looking for employment after returning home from a summer job. She spotted a beautiful building on 5th Street and strolled in to check it out not even knowing it was an “Omni Netherland.” The rest is hotel history! Her work experience has included front desk agent/supervisor/manager and concierge at hotels such as Renaissance by Marriott, The Beverly Hills Hotel and The Mondrian on Sunset.
Before Moving to California in 2000, Andrea was studying musical theatre and opera performance at various institutions back east. While attending Northern Kentucky University, she learned of an audition taking place in Santa Clause, Indiana for a summer singing gig. Yes, this place really does exist! Go ahead; Google it! After surviving sleet and scary hotel rooms, she was cast as a singer and dancer at Canobie Lake Park in Salem, New Hampshire. After performing six shows a day, six days a week, she developed nodes on her vocal chords forcing her to give up solos and go on vocal rest.
After that summer, her singing capabilities were undependable and she had to give up singing as a profession even though it remains to this day her greatest passion.
After she moved to Los Angeles, she was accepted into U.C.L.A. as a theatre major and ended up studying in several fields before receiving her B.A. in Psychology in 2003.
Within the past month, you may have seen Andrea singing an Italian aria on the reality show, “The Bachelor: Rome.” Just for fun, she attended an open call on Melrose Avenue that quickly led to one of the most unique experiences of her life. Even though the production process was not at all what she expected, she has no regrets. The reason she auditioned in the first place was due to the fact that the show was being filmed in Rome and she had not yet been to Europe. After she was denied a rose by the "prince," Andrea had a chance to travel through Tuscany for a week with another girl from the show. This had been a life dream, and because of her interest in the Italian culture she had studied Italian for years before leaving on her adventure. It proved to be quite handy!
When it comes to her concierge philosophy, Andrea believes in promoting the best of the best because she believes that when people are visiting the Los Angeles area they are looking for more than a recommendation; they are looking for and unforgettable experience!
